MOTOROLA CHARM MB502
The Motorola Charm is a Android 2.1 device, sporting a 2.8 inch, 240 x 320 pixel display. The Charm is a decidedly different take on the Android smartphone, it sports a squarish touch-screen design(like that of the Motorola Flipout, except that it doesn't flip open). It comes with a Backtrack sensor (similar to the Motorola Backflip). The mobile allows for a third control option and lets you navigate the phone without obstructing the view. The Backtrack is more valuable in the Charm, given its small compact size and the bar design. The mobile packs a Android 2.1 operating system, a 3-megapixel camera with Kodak Perfect Touch technology, a full HTML browser with Flash Lite, full QWERTY keypad and supportss Wi-Fi & 3G connectivity. The Charm is powered by a 600Mhz Cortex A8, which allows for smooth menu transitions and app functions.
Along with the usual Android 2.1 suite of Google applications, Motorola has included a few other niceties, there is the Happenings application, which integrates all your SMS, Facebook, and Twitter communications into one continuous stream. Motorola has skinned the Charm's Android 2.1 interface with its custom MOTOBLUR software. It basically makes the UI into a more socially-oriented system that integrates connections with Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter into the phone. You get the usual multiple home screens, live wallpaper, speech-to-text, voice control and the ability to use more than one Gmail account.Though the Charm is pretty compact for a smartphone, the extra width allows for a spacious set of keys. The full QWERTY keypad is well seprated and well-domed for quicker text entry and cutting down on erronious keypresses.
The Charm sports a custom 3D gallery that looks quite similar to Apple?s CoverFlow music browsing interface and functions quite fluidly. It also comes with a music player, with playlist and shuffle support, as well as FM radio and SoundHound track recognition.
The Charm comes with a 3 megapixel fixed focus sensor, the Motorola Charm?s camera is passable in some moments and paltry in others. Sun light or bright, direct lights will produce very solid photographs if you have a steady hand. The camera struggles in moderate and dim lighting settings. There?s no flash, so don?t count on getting any help in that regard. The camera is easily accessible from the camera shortcut button at the bottom of the Charm?s keypad, and photos can also be taken with a single press of this key.
